Dame Jane Goodall, the eminent conservationist, has called for "dramatic changes" to how we think about the natural world to prevent chimpanzees becoming extinct in 30 years.

The famous primatologist said that modern technology must be harnessed to halt the habitat loss that is threatening wild troups of chimps. She also said more work to understand the needs of villagers who live nearby is needed.

This plea for urgent action to mark the 50th anniversary of her first visit to the Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania, where she has spent her careering since 1960 studying the habits of chimpanzees.
