Massage for horses, dogs and cats
- Massage encourages movement in muscles, increases blood flow and renews nervous
pathways. The increased blood flow improves oxygen transport to the site and
increases waste product removal, both of which accelerate healing.
-
- KEY BENEFITS
-
· Reduces tension arising from injury or treatment
- · Improves blood-flow removal of wastes & toxins
- · Improves oxygen levels for tissue repair
-
- METHODS
- Therapeutic massage is a systematic stroking or kneading of the soft tissues of the body. It reduces inflammation and swelling in joints, alleviates pain and promotes natural healing
processes by increasing the flow of nutrients to muscles.
-
- Hand Massage
-
With fingers or palm, pressures can be put onto muscle groups to help relax them. This can be done fairly quickly, and some animals will only permit short periods of such intense contact.
-
- On the other hand, most horses delight in massage and will lean into it, sometimes pushing their masseur into the wall. Or they can pull against tail-traction so much that you might worry their tail will
fall off - but no, they love it!
Mechanical Massage
Using massagers can help with deeper muscles that we cannot reach by hand. A horse's hind-quarters may have eight inches
of pure muscle - too much for fingertip pressure!
With different types of pulse settings, these machines can work in different ways.

MASSAGE We all suffer from minor injuries, pain or discomfort. Our instinctive reaction is to rub or hold the affected area to ease the pain.
Touch is an essential requirement for healthy development in early life. Research has shown the babies who have received massage from their mothers have increased weight gain, increased
nerve and brain cell development and better hormonal functioning and cell activity.

Applied skillfully, therapeutic massage is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Injury, over-activity, and obesity may may all be
treated with massage.
Received regularly it may also help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse.
