Vav's concern about the environment have been
written up in an article in the Isle of Wight County Press.
Transition Island
is an unfunded Community Action group starting to plan for the twin challenges
facing our place on the planet - Peak Oil and Climate Change. Rather than wait
for a mythical 'fairy godmother', the idea is to encourage everyone to do a
little bit.
Vav says that Transition Island is "not the Vav Simon show",
but that a clear leader is required to provide some central direction. The
national network "Transition
Towns" uses a model where every leader is replaced by more local people six
months after they start, ensuring time and energy do not wane. It also helps to
make the democracy very visible.
The Transition Island initiative intends to encourage and
support all other local initiatives, rather than create yet more splinter
groups.
A roadshow of public meetings in underway, for people to hear
the ideas in a local venue, and decide whether they wish to start an action
