At the end of National Pet Week, we held an Open Day on Saturday 6th May.
Despite the wet weather, it went very well. Our Car Park was full, and you can't ask for much more than that!
 We
arranged a variety of demonstrations, displays and talks, aimed at increasing pet owner’s knowledge of how to improve their animal’s health and performance.
Hydrotherapy,
chiropractic,
massage, homeopathy were all demonstrated and discussed. Vav Simon, Clinical Director, had several dogs and a couple of ponies on hand to help her with this.
 Modern
hi-tech veterinary methods were also displayed, showing how these powerful new approaches can solve problems that other methods cannot. Roger Meacock, our specialist vet talked about the controversial ‘raw meaty
bones’ diet, saying “modern pet food is such a poor diet that it actually increases the body’s vulnerability to illness”.
The
Vectis Dog Training Society put on displays of their ‘Good Citizen’ training programme and
their agility training. Wight Wizards, now organising new flyball training, used their latest equipment to show how fast fit dogs can run!

feeders and a humane dog harness also demonstrated their products.
Several charities provided stalls, raising money for their causes. A raffle and collection box combined to raise £73.50 for charity.
Leaflets listing the top ten tips for responsible pet ownership were handed out as part of the national campaign raising
awareness on responsible pet ownership.

To raise awareness of owner’s responsibility for pets

To raise charity donations for a total of six charities

To show the public our facilities and related animal activities
We are very pleased that we have achieved these!
All-in-all it was a very successful event for pet owners interested in improving and maintaining their animal’s health and fitness. |
Charities present included:
Greyhound Rescue, Cats Protection, Wight Squirrel Project and Friends of the Animals.
We also collected for the International League for the Protection of Horses and the National Pet Week charities.
