More help for pets

Natural therapies are increasingly popular. Pets are very important to owners, whether they are family pets, companions for the elderly or assistance animals. Many people are converts for their own health choices. They also use complementary therapies regularly to ensure the health and fitness of their pet.

The Natural Therapy Centre for Animals in Ryde has been open for a year, providing chiropractic, hydrotherapy, and massage for horses, dogs or cats. Dr Vav Simon, Clinical Director has also been asked to treat rabbits, ferrets, goats, alpacas, cows, buffalo, and wolves.

Great support from local vets who refer animals after surgery has enabled Centre staff to speed up their rehabilitation. They also have a vet specialising in ‘hi-tech’ acupuncture and homeopathy methods whose fortnightly clinics are now in great demand.

The range of therapies available is still growing. New additions that Vav has arranged include laser treatment for soft tissue problems, horse massage for all sorts of muscular problems, iridology for a range of metabolic problems, and a natural healer who works with life energies.

Complementary therapies can often work very well together, working in such different ways. They can also form a successful partnership with orthodox medicine, solving problems that neither approach could do alone.

These treatments can also help in non-medical situations. The over-weight dog or arthritic dog, the competition horse or other unfit working animals can all benefit. Training classes and a variety of Friday evening lectures on animal health matters are provided. And there are fun experiences for horses and dogs to be enjoyed with their owners!
