BACK IN PERFECT BALANCE
Kluedo is an 11 year-old Westfalian gelding who had been doing really well in dressage tests. Martine had bought him when he was seven and had been training him to
the point where they had achieved Advanced Medium grade. Things were going well and then last summer, Kluedo caught a virus.
Once he was over the worst, he never seemed to recover properly. Martine thought it was the virus hanging on, but three months later he was still rearing up much
more than he should,
and hating the right rein. She got his teeth checked and the vet took blood
samples but although the tests were clear, his performance was still below his normal standard.
Then Martine suddenly realised that he might have a sore back. “I've suffered with my back, since I was 19 — I get pains all down one side from time to time.” She
called out Vav for a chiropractic treatment. Vav explained that virus infections can cause changes in ligament tensions. Ligaments hold the bones in place like guy-ropes hold tent-poles in place. So, it is not unusual to
see these tensions cause subtle mis-alignments which can then trap a nerve.
Martine noticed an immediate change in Kluedo. He was supple and flexible, calm and well-behaved and his flying changes came back to normal. These improvements were
all-important for his dressage career. As he was after the virus, he wouldn’t train happily and couldn't do dressage tests. He was, in effect, back to beginner level. But within a few days of the treatment, Martine felt
confident to resume training.
Vav came back once to do the follow-up treatment. This is usually necessary to finish off the therapy with small adjustments here and there and it can nip any new
problems in the bud. This time, hardly anything needed to be done, which probably explains why the improvement was so quick and so good. And it has paid off — just recently Kluedo easily won his Advanced level test and
qualified for the Regionals!
